The number should be less than that, it's probably 02OW12640.

The number breaks down in three parts: 02 for the year the instrument was finished (2002) then OW (not a zero, but a capital o) for an Orion bass, finally the serial number.

There's a single serial number for all Alembic instruments, and I don't think they've reached 20,000 yet. They crossed 10,000 sometime in the late 1990s, I think.

I don't think that Alembic no. 15,000 is born yet. one thing that confuses me a bit is that Joel postet a build request for his Orion 01OW12672 just a few days ago... That would be an older instrument with a higher s/n... So, your guess seems close but not right, Adriaan.

Firman, I would contact the seller through eBay and get the correct serial number of this true beauty. Oh, and welcome to the club !

It looks to be a lovely bass and in very nice condition.  Starting bid of $1500 and BIN of $2200.

I'll let some of the other guys who follow eBay prices more closely give you advice on the pricing.

Very nice bass; the Flame Maple looks really nice.  Personally, I would be concerned about shipping a bass in a gig bag.

Demand for extra packing if you win, but his B.I.N price seems a bit high for a bass with no case. I paid a little more than this for mine used but, was practically brand new and is a 4 string with a cocobolo top, side led's AND the original hard case. The cases for these things are made for each bass and are priced at a premium because so. He should knock a few hundred off for no case since it will cost you close to that to get one from Alembic. It's a beautiful bass and I would bid on it myself but it's not the right time for me. hope you score it as these things sound soooo good.

Hey 2400wattman,

Did you change the electronics of your Orion Bass? Or you just stick with the standard one? What do you think about the tone?

Thanks.

Mine has stock electronics and I would like to add a filter and Q switch but with an led switch taking up space there's no room. So I'd have to ditch the bass and treble controls to install the filter and Q switch. I probably won't do it as I'm very happy with the way it sounds and none of my other basses sound anything like it. Although, nothing sounds quite like those Alembic filters and it's the cheapest upgrade you can do to these basses if they don't have them. Being that the one your looking at does'nt have an led switch there's probably ample room to add a filter and Q switch and would make this bass a MONSTER!
