Hiya Mica, just getting the jist as a new member of your club. I purchased a secound hand Essence 4 a couple of years ago and may be looking at selling it. The serial # is 95K9110. Would you be able to help me with details of its origin & age. In NZ we are quite ignorant about this brand, as I believe there is no agent in NZ that markets such a quality bass guitar brand new. Hope you can help. Cheers.   Wayne.

  • Are 3 Alembics enough? NO!

Hi Wayne,
Pardon my intrusion, but your serial number indicates an instrument made in 1995.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Wayne,

There are a few Alembics floating around NZ, I lived in Hamilton from '02-'07, but brought mine back to the US when I moved.  There are a couple members here at the forum who are Kiwis.  Two or three up in Auckland and another down near Nelson if my memory serves me right.

FYI: the serial number requests can take awhile to get processed.  Mica has about 14,000 other jobs and the serial number requests seem to be low man on the totem pole in terms of importance.

If you have some pictures we could probably help you out with most of the build details (plus we love pictures around here).

Regards,
Toby

Hi Wayne; as Mike said, the serial number shows that it was made in 1995.  As for the origin, all Alembics have been and still are handcrafted in a small shop in Northern California.  Since 1979 the shop has been located in the town of Santa Rosa, California.  And as Toby said, if you can post some pictures, we might be able to help out with some of the details until Mica can run another batch of serial numbers.  If it's a standard Essence, the controls are probably Volume, Pan, and Low Pass Filter, the neck is probably Maple with Walnut pinstripes, and the body is probably Mahogany.  But there are many variations; I've only listed some of the standard items.

Hiya Guys, Thank you all for your great input in helping me find out more about my baby. I have attached a couple of pics for your info. Perhaps this club could help me find a new home for her.  Again much appreciated.  Regards,  Wayne

The pictures suggest the following.  The top is Flame Maple, as are the top and back headstock veneers.  The body is Maple.  Three piece Maple neck with Walnut pinstripes.

I can't tell from the pictures; how many knobs does it have?

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the drop-D tuner, and perhaps the set of tuners, was added later.

Almir,
If you start a new thread in the serial number/history request section,( with your serial # in subject line) ,it will be easy to refer back to once Mica makes another run at checking the files.

Beautiful top on your bass!
cheers
