I have made contact with the original owner over on Facebook.  Will gather up questions and correspond with him.  Earl, I believe you purchased this from Gerard?  If so, we'll have the 44 years of provenance.

FWIW Gary, my Series bass 80-1684 had its "birthday" yesterday... September 18th, 1980. This doubleneck is such a custom build that I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually later in completion, but at twenty-odd numbers apart I'm guessing they are pretty close.

From looking at all the vintage Series 1 instruments posted here with checked finishes, the oiled finish on this one is wonderful after 44 years. I know the current finishes are less susceptible to crazing but oil finishes cannot craze.  Something to think about for a new build.  Of my 6 Alembics, this is the only oil finished one.

Adriaan. As a moderator, can you add the Serial number to the title of this thread?  801662. There are many threads for this instrument and this one has the most accurate information from all its owners over the years. It’s also the one Mica designated with a (U) as missing a build card. It would look more uniform in the Serial Number Request listings.
Thanks.
