Hi! Just pulled the trigger on this bass and, while it's en route, would like to know any particulars you can offer. Thank you for the assistance! I'm glad to at last be able to join the Club.

Hi Kurt,

Here's what I found in the instrument file:

top: California Walnut
accent: Maple
body: Mahogany
neck: 3-piece Maple with 2 Walnut pinstripes
fingerboard: Ebony
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
pickups: MXY
controls: Epic volume, pan, bass, treble, mono output
originally made for: Guitar Center, Santa Ana, CA
birthday: June 26, 1998

There's no record of any repairs to this bass.

As the current owner of this bass, I am curious as to why the records show fretboard inlays, which mine does not have, and no signs of ever having done so.

There could be many reasons. Here's a few I can think of:

1. Possible duplicate serial number
2. Possible fingerboard replacement
3. Possible error in the build record
4. Possible error in my transcription of the build record
5. Possible error in reading the serial number - please confirm this is the same serial number

Once I hear back from you confirming the number, then I can go about seeking if there is a duplicate and making any needed corrections.

Definitely 98W11614 stamped on the back of the headstock, just been upstairs and re-checked. Fingerboard has only edge dots, the front is beautiful even dark ebony.

So I only found one instrument with this serial number, and the records says no inlays. I'm sorry for the transcription error.

Thank you, that makes sense, it definitely sounds like my bass now. Ten days of ownership, two gigs in and I absolutely love it, I can see this being passed on as a family heirloom when my time comes.
