I'm just curious about the old butterscotch Series pickups I have. They say #40 on pieces of tape on the bottom, so I am thinking that might be serial number of the bass they came from. Anyone ever seen #40? Ever owned it? Know where it is now?

OK, back to soldering. Time to put the filters in!

I've seen a few clear pickups with a number cast inside (visible on the bottom), but I don't know if there was ever any production reference numbers in tape on the bottom of the pickups. We'll have to ask dad!

I think there's a good chance that the tape with numbers might have been added by whoever removed the pickups from the bass. It might be worth asking your dad, but 1973 was a long time ago!

These are the pickups marked 1000/#40, right?

Perhaps it was a note on the pickup construction. 1000 turns of 40 gauge magnet wire?

That's a though! They are interesting in that they are trapezoid. The resistance is around 800 ohms. Great sounding pickups that sound even better now that they are finally hooked up to some real electronics again.
