Cool, It looks in exceptionally good condition for a bass of this age, I can't see any wear markings on the body or shine on the pickups from use. Maybe it's been a collectors item or refinished and if it's had the high frequency noise cancelling network upgrade you may have new pickups installed.
I've not see an alembic headstock like that before. Reminds me of PRS Guitars.
It could have been originally made like that or fashioned like that after a repair job who knows. We have seen a few alembics with non standard headstocks for that reason.

It looks medium scale to me but that could be just the way the picture was taken.
My guess on the wood, would be a some kind of walnut.
