Author Topic: Ok, one more question (LED's and battery life) (Read 275 times)

I know, I'm on the borderline of spamming but again, I tried to search and no luck. I noticed that there is a separate battery compartment with 3 9v batteries then there is the single 9v that looks like it powers the pre-amp. I ASSume the 3 are for the LED's and from what little I remember from engineering school, that's a lot of battery for LEDs but still.. I'm curious if anyone has had any experience on how many hours one can expect from the batteries with the LEDs on?

As an aside the bass came with good quality Duracell batteries, but I swapped them out with the new Energizer 10 year shelf life Lithiums ( I do this on all my precious basses and pedals) .. reason being, they're VERY stable and there is almost no chance of a leak or current decay even if left in the bass for years... They were originally designed for fire alarms.. They fit perfectly in the compartments and give me added peace of mind.

My Further uses four 9 volts in a separate compartment in back for the LEDs, (side only), and another 9 volt in the control cavity for the electronics. Mine last a LONG time, easily over a year, and I tend to turn them on whenever I play the guitar (which rotates with a couple of others - all Alembic electronics). IIRC, some colors like blue take more current than the red/amber ones on mine.

Thanks Bill... wow 4 in a guitar, eh? I'm using blue so I with 3, so I guess it's fair to assume 6 months or more.. Nice.

Like Bill's guitar my Brown Bass uses four batteries. They lasted at least a year and that was when it was my main bass being use daily.

On my a 04 Rogue V with red side LED's. Takes 4 9v's for the lights with no intensity adjustment on the bass. I use these lights about 3 to 4 days a week for roughly 2 to 3 hours a day. Using Duracell's I get 9 to 10 months out of a set of batteries.
On my Orion V I use red side FretFX lights. I alternate these two basses so each gets roughly the same use weekly. These lights are powered with a single 2032 Lithium batt which lasts about 45 days.There is no intensity adjustment with these lights either.

So how is it when Martin Sims fitted 11 bright red LED's to my MK Signature bass and it only uses the same battery as the pre amp circuit and lasts for ages?

Interesting, I think they must have gone from 4 to 3 recently then, maybe with 9v batteries these days lasting longer. I know the new Lithium's I'm using have a 25% longer life and 10 year shelf life.
