Alembic Serial Numbering and Production?
« on: April 22, 2015, 05:46:42 PM »
I'm just curious how the Alembic serial numbering system works? if it's not something that is proprietary info that is...
For example if my Mark King has an S/N of 144xx, does this make it the 14000th Mark King? or is that total number of Alembic Instruments?  Also is there a list of SN's and age somewhere? sorta like Martin has?

Also if it's not proprietary info again, about how many instruments are made on average a month these days?

There is a page that has been created by Flip here;

http://www.fcbass.nl/alembic/10.htm

He has done this off his own back and is a great resource for past instruments.
In the early days serial numbering was a trifle less than what it is today. Doubled up numbers etc.
I believe the system is sequential numbering with the year as the first digits e.g. mine 75-251
made in 1975 and the 251st instrument ever made.
That pretty much sums up my knowledge on the subject.

There is more info here about serial numbers etc.

This letter FC posted (scroll down a little) explains the serial number history a bit.

hmm.. ok, so it does appear the serial numbers are more or less Serial and in sequence.,.. so 14xxx is the current total production since they began numbering?

Interesting.. I had a bass stolen a while ago, and all I recall is it had a 4 digit number.. wish I could remember it's actual #.

thanks
