I bought this S2 to compare to my S1 electronics and it's kind of hard to decide which one to keep. One of them has to go. I do achieve the tone I like on the S1 and can get the same tone on the S2, but the S2 is a bit easier to play, notwithstanding some adjustments(bridge filed to accomadate lower action,at least for my taste) to the S1. The S1 now carries (gulp!) sentimental value after a year of owning it. Oh we should all have such dilemmas. I bet I sound like a wench!!

Well, assuming that you're serious for fun...

Here's what I would do, though it will piss some people off. Put them both in the for sale section and then come back to continue reading.

Did confirming your post for one of them give you more of an upset feeling in your stomach than the other? That should tell you something!

Are you asking the same price for both? If not, what will you do with the extra money if you sell the pricier bass? Does it matter?

Is one of them in better shape than the other? If you want a living room bass, then keep the prettier one. If you're gigging, sell the prettier one before you wreck it!

Are you recording? The S2 should have a few other usable tones that you can't get from the S1 that might shine in the studio more than the living room or the stage.

There's no arguing with easier to play That's why I play SC models, because they are easier to play, making me a better player as a result. Does easier to play in your case make you better or inspire you beyond what you can do with the S1?

I would keep the seriesII,it's worth more, just get it adjusted to your liking/playing,& you'll get used to it over time,my old alembic has seriesII guts & i Know every twist of each knob after 27yrs of sittin her in my lap!.....seriesII's are more versitile studio/live basses,there's more control of your overall tone/output.

The selector placement is better on the Series II imho. That, and they're both beautiful. I think you will become addicted to the master volume at least, if not the cvq on each pickup as well.
