Weird.  That would make it 5.12 Kohms with a tolerance of +/- 5% perhaps?

Anyone know for sure?

Close! It's an Allen Bradley hot molded resistor with a value of 5.1k 1/4watt 5% tolerance. These are really deciphered with the 4 band charts. The yellow band is special and indicates the highest level of military specifications. They are no longer manufactured, but were famous as they had the highest reliability of any electronic component. They are still highly valued for spacecraft and military applications and frequently sell for very high prices ($1+ each even in bulk).

Now we build the circuit with a metal film 5.11k 1/4watt 1% tolerance.

Mica,
I found, on the internet, the resistors in Brooklyn of all places.
5.1 K ohm 1/4 watt - Allen Bradley 100 pieces for $31.
The place is Leeds Radio/Leeds Electronics 68 North 7th Street, Brooklyn NY 11211
link to their wabsite is;

So if any other club members need that particular resistor, Slawie apparently has 99 extra.
