Strings for Stanley Clarke Deluxe V
« on: May 29, 2008, 11:42:41 AM »
Hello,
Can anyone advise me on purchasing strings in the UK, for a Stanley Clarke Deluxe V. I've just purchased such a beast, and I'm curious to know the best options.
I've always used Rotosounds with my Spoiler V: 130, 95, 75, 55, 35.
Also, would it be advisable to change these gauges bearing in mind the shorter scale?
And finally, what would have been the original make of strings fitted at birth and their sizes?
Hope someone out there can help. This message board makes fascinating reading; and I know there some very informed folk about.

Steve.
Unless the original buyer specified something different, the bass would have been supplied with alembic cx3 strings. These are slightly heavier than the rotosounds you use and the bridge and nut would have been cut to fit. The lighter guages may not sit properly.

Hi Graeme,

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
I've actually found my favourite Rotosounds went on a treat. There was slightly too much wrapping around the B String, but no rattles, and the tuning is stable. Too early to say for certain, but it's looks like I'll stay with this set up.
Might be visiting a mate in Perth sometime soon, I'll keep an eye on your website, and if it's good, I'll pop along to a gig, and sink a couple of heavies, I'm usually always thirsty.
