Sig electronic on different bodies?
« on: July 13, 2015, 08:36:43 AM »
Did anybody try Signature electronic on different body basses like the SC or the MK shape? In theory they should sound the same right? Or not? Does the significant difference is size effects the overall sound?

I am confused.  I thought the SC & MK were the signature models

You are correct. I'm going to reformulate the question: if anyone tried both SC and MK signature models, is there any significant difference in the tone due to the difference body size, provided they share the same wood choices?
...although to elaborate more on your post, the so called Signature package can be installed as a custom order on other shapes too.

Sounds better on the longer scale basses.  Not my favorite circuit, but it does sound very good on my  two Balance K cocobolo basses.  Sounds much less impressive on my short scale cocobolo bass.  Anniversary circuits are the best in my experience.

I think it would be nice on an  Essence Alembic body  Long or Medium Scale !   I would dig that ! Wire it with the 5 pin and forget about the battery.

I have had both, SC and MK, and I have signature electronic on fretless Orion. The main difference in the sound is the body wood and neck. My SC was in coco bolo, my MK is in Maple. My Orion have spalted maple on the top. Maple provide more clear and agressive sound for me. I never tried same wood but different body shape with signature electronics. I think wood quality has priority over the body shape of the instrument. On other basses, I have different body shape with same kind of wood and same electronic... no significant difference of sound IMO

The signature electronics work with whatever you give it. On a long and short scale bass, the signal from the pickups will be different because the vibrating string will contain a different mix of fundamental and harmonic content therefore I would expect the output from the signature electronics will be different because it is receiving a different input signal.

if you could make both basses the same size, construction materials, pickup location  and scale length, strings etc. then i would expect them to sound very similar.

I think in this scenario, the difference is more to do with the construction of the bass than the electronics. How significant the difference you can hear is would be up to your ears to tell you.
