F2-B Volume
« on: June 22, 2010, 06:42:25 PM »
Hi,
I have an early F2-B (#488) and I just noticed the volume on either channel never completely turns off.
There's a low signal at 0, a slight fade at 1 and then it works fine from there on up. Any ideas as to what might be going on?
Thanks!

I hope everyone doesn't think that I tightened down on the knob lock in the wrong place and are too embarrassed for me to tell me.
The knob is properly seated.

Hi John and welcome to the club. Some recent successful suggestions discussed are to thoroughly excecise all switches and potentiometers.  Re-seat any internal cabling, tubes, etc...

Here is the FAQ section dedicated to the F-2B:

I'm sure others that have actual experience with the unit will chime in as well.  I hope that this helps. Good luck with the solution and if necessary give Alembic a call and they will gladly assist.

Thanks for the welcome Art!
With all the controls having been exercised and nothing looking wayward inside, I've exhausted my
limited electronics knowledge. Based on the fact that both volume controls do this, I would think the problem is after the individual channels.
That's as far as I've gotten so far. It may be time to head to the shop.
Thanks for jumping in and pointing me to a good resource.

You're welcome John.  With the age of the unit (#488) it may be time for some capacitor work.   Here is the contact information  for Alembic in Santa Rosa. Best, Art

Thanks a million Art.
I think you're right......time for an oil change
and tire rotation.
