F 2B Line Out
« on: February 27, 2011, 06:56:58 PM »
Since my F 2B doesn't have a line out, without miking the speaker,
what are my options for sending a signal to the board with my effects (pedals) included to the send?

Is this for a live set-up or for at home?
I would think running the F-2B straight to a mixer should work unless the volume is dimed on the preamp.
It might take a little trial and error to find a sweet spot.

If you need an XLR input , then a direct box (after the F-2B )should get you there.

Your F-2B has what would be considered one unbalanced line out per channel and one mono unbalanced line out ; that makes 3  unbalanced line outs total. I would not send those signal sources to a recording board for various reasons such as causing mismatches  and gain and noise complications and possible damage to the input stage of the mixer channel. The  possible output voltage potential might get to high for some mixer input stages.

           You can mult the output from your Bass in parallel from a direct box and send one  wet signal leg out from the direct box to the board and one  wet signal leg to the F-2B . The signal leg going to the F-2B might have to have the balanced out pins 2&3 tied together in the event that you experience a  signal loss or use PIN1 ground & PIN 3 HOT and just increase the volume on the F-2B. There are variations to this http://www.benchmarkmedia.com/discuss/feedback/newsletter/2008/05/2/helpful-how-tos-how-properly-connect-balanced-outputs-unbalanced-input

Steve ,   What you can do to make it easy with a Passive Direct Box such as a Proco DB-4 ;
Plug your Bass into your effects.
Send the Unbalanced effects signal to the Passive  DI Box.
Send the Balanced out from the Passive DI Box to the sound board .
Send the Unbalanced out from the Passive  DI Box to the F-2B.

There it is , THIS is an improvement to my previous post #1640.
I tried to EDIT it last night and then was DENIED in the process.

Here is a link to a versatile handy passive  DI Box;

Hey Wolf,
I'm always good to see when you offer your advice as I have always found it useful.
Here's a poser for you.
What about a series instrument?

Slawie , you can do the same  with your Series I Bass. I have used a 19 rack mount  Proco DB-4A with a Series I as the  above  signal path in my post #1641. Start the signal path from the Alembic power supply audio outputs . And YES , you can do this in stereo with the F-2B because the Proco DB-4A  has four discrete channels . Is that your question ?

Wolf, I think Steve is asking about ways on how to send F2B signal to the board, not just the Bass or Pedals. Can he use the DI to match impedances between Console's input and F2B unbal out? Or is it too hot for the DI?

Mario_____            As per Proco  it appears that conceivably you could go from an F-2B line out if you chose too; if you do it right !
HOWEVER , I can not guarantee what your the results will be because I do not have any information or specs.on the Console or how the Consoles operator goes about terminations and procedures. I would always have the input stage of the console padded down all the way with the gain all the way down at first to prevent a major BURN OUT .The same goes for all other gain settings in the signal path,( F-2B, Bass, etc ... ...)  READ ALL THE LINKS BEFORE PROCEEDING.  My usual disclaimers  apply  , I am not responsible for any damages !  lol ______

I use this DI  successfully in my PA for taking the line out of keyboards to the mixing console. Based on the B+ being 300V and if I have calculated correctly the F2B output impedance will be somewhere around 44K. That should be fine with most DI's. The biggest thing is the need to pad the the DI input so as to not overdrive it.

Elwood My question is for live performances.
Hey Wolf, I never know whose system or what board will be used or who sound tec is.
And I think Mario is catching my drift.
I'm still a little confused but may be understanding a little better after checking the DI boxes out.
I believe I would need at least a 2 channel DI because I also run a Yamaha Keyboard or sometimes a Tarus Pedal thru amp channel B and bass thru channel A.
( seperate cabs per channel )
I simply do not want to send a dry signal to the board. I want to be in control. So I know a DI box will be required to get the signal to the board...
So if I do as you described below will  I get the dry sound of the F2B and the wet sound when chosen effects are use?

In my post 1641 leaves the F-2B out of the signal path to the sound board but sends your wet effects signal to both the sound board and the F-2B.  If you want to send an output from the F-2B to the sound board the signal path diagram in one of the .pdf links in my post number 1646 will show you the way my friend .

Wolf & Keith

I'll score a DI and try putting it together.
Thanks for the help !
