Alembic Activators and Europa Electronics?
« on: March 15, 2012, 03:40:47 PM »
I recently won some SSH style Alembic Activator pickups for guitar on ebay.

At some point,  I plan to put them into a strat stye guitar I made back in the early 80's .with brass hardware.

I have a set of Europa electronics that came out of a bass. Would they be suitable for those pickups or would I be better off using a strato-blaster which is built for guitars like Bill TGO has in his nightshop guitar. Or may be waiting for some spectrum electronics or other 3 pickup alembic electronics to appear on line somewhere.

If I need to use a stratoblaster does it need to be the last item in the chain before going out to the jack or does it go before the volume and tone pots?

Also the Europa has a pan pot so I'm not sure how that would work in a 3 pickup situation or whether i can leave it out without having to make any electronic mods?

If it has to stay in could it be utilised so that it only operated in either positions 2 and 4 on a 5 position blade switch to blend between the two pickups active in those positions eg. either neck to mid or mid to bridge but not both.

Not an immediate project but something I want to think about before getting into action on it. Any idea's gratefully received. Also any suitable spare guitar electronics would be good to get as an option.

I think you should at least have the pan pot replaced by a switch or 3 switches... Mica will know for sure.

Yeah never thought about having those switches instead of the blade switch.....

Using europa guts that would make 6 switches......!!!!!

Am i right in thinking that the rectangular pickup is the same as the others inside but just in a different sized casing?

I guess I will have to check when I get home from work, but if so I presume the location of the pickup coil and magnet would be central rather than offset towards bridge or neck or even angled like some strats.
