Most Alembic pickups don't use springs. If you pickup has 4 screw holes (one at each corner), it mounts and adjusts without springs. Two of the screws, catercorner from each other go under the pickup. Then the pickup is placed in the cavity, on top of the first two screws, and the remaining two screws then go through the other two catercorner holes. To adjust, you first loosen the two screws on top. Then, placing your skinny screwdriver through the other two holes, you adjust the two screws under the pickup to obtain the desired pickup height. Finally, you tighten the top two screws to lock down the pickup.
If your pickups only have two screw holes, one on each side, never mind.
