Humidifying your bass

Does anyone here use a humidifying system with their basses? In MN we are cold and dry in the winter and when summer comes I've typically got the air conditioner running full time because of allergies. I'm wondering whether something like the Planet Waves humidpack would prevent fret ends from protruding which is a problem during certain seasons with one of my Alembics.

Although I don't have a lack of humidity here in Atlanta, when I lived in Colorado I had to use something to control the humidity in my acoustics.  It was that oval thingy that went in the sound hole.  Worked great.  I never had a problem with my basses out there, except that I had to keep the satin finish one oiled regularly so it wouldn't dry out.

When the fret ends are sticking out just file them flush. I use a jewelers file. You should only have to do it once or twice and it will not happen any more.

I live in AZ and have year-round challenges with dry air.
 
To cope, I purchased a small humidifier and a digital gauge for my instrument room.
 
Ideally, humidity should be around 40% (+/-).
 
I go through about 3/4 - 1 gallon of water per day to achieve this (or as close to it as I can).
 
Also - remember to change the filter 2-3 times per year. This makes a huge difference in the humidifier's performance.

I live in Colorado and so far I haven't had to use a humidifier with my Series II (it stays in a flight case), but I do use one for my Vintage 62' reissue Hofner, which is hollow body and prone to checking due to dry conditions. I use an Oasis Case+ unit with the Digital Hygrometer so I can monitor the humidity level and temperature in the case. The Case+ unit is designed for extremely low humidity levels, and puts out 50% more humidity than their standard unit. Works VERY well (humidity levels hang at 40-45%...BUT you have to refill it about every 3-4 days. It attaches to the inside of your case by a magnet...
Not expensive...most all retail music stores carry them at about $46 including the Digital Hygrometer, or about $20 for just the humidifier.
