83 Spoiler
« on: February 22, 2015, 05:19:15 AM »
hello
I picked up a 1983 Spoiler last summer and have been slowly bringing it back to gig ready condition. The previous owner played this baby hard and long for 30 plus years. It's in nice shape and sounds awesome really. Anyway, Im almost there, everything is working except the Q switch. the purple wire has become disconnected from the board and I can't for the life of me see where it came off from.
Can anyone help? If I knew where to solder it, Im pretty confident in my soldering skills to repair it. I guess I could send the works to the mothership but it seems like a simple job.
any suggestions?
thank you.

Spose,
Post a picture of the cavity and the associated purple wire. Someone I'm sure will recognize it.

This is the best pic I have, looks like it connects somewhere halfway the print...
I'll take a better look next week (bass is in practice room)

Time flies when your havin' fun, is it Thursday already? :-) Click the pictures for the full size version. (should open in new tab or window)  On the back of the board, it?s on the same strip as the 1,5K thingy. Double-check this on the other side of the board, it?s on the same strip as the shrink tubed end of the upright placed resistor.

That would be here on your pic:

you pulled the knobs off your bass and pulled the board, then took photos... then into a graphics program to add arrows!
un-freakin-believable!

How can I show appreciation?

I have a new unopened set of strings
Dean Markley Blue Steel 4 string 105-45
I can't use them..

I'd be happy to send them to you
email me your address if you want them.

thanks again, very very nice of you.
yeah!!

Hah, no worries! Its my firm belief that any Alembic should be up and running without issues :-)
I also discovered that the nut holding the volume pot was loose, so it possible saved me from dropouts/weird noises. :-)

Spose: Plz keep your strings, you never know when you can use them. Thanx for the offer!

There?s still a chance for Mica to chime in:
I started working on my Orion to make the EMW electronics happening :-)
When trying to fit the components two wires came loose on the treble/bass boards:

I assume these should be connected in-line?
I?m pretty sure someone asked me if the EMW will fit in the Orion/Epic controls cavity without modification, can?t find that topic though?
I?m not sure yet, if it will fit it will be extremely tight. If it will work, I?ll update the EMW topic in the ?Alembic Basses and Guitars? section asap :-)
