Hi folks, I just purchased an F-1x used...its an older one....red knobs etc. Tonight I brought it on my first gig and the sound guy brought to my attention that it was cutting in and out...tried different cable...same problem. Band after played no issue with same line different rig. Any ideas? thanks

Clean the input/output jacks with a clean 9mm pistol brass cleaning brush from the outside.

Either the F-1X or the F2B (or both) have jacks with contact points (open the box to get to them) that can get dirty and need very fine sandpaper folded over and pulled between the points to clean them up. They look like the jacks on a stompbox used to turn the battery on/off.

Also check the tubes and make sure your cables are good.

As far as cleaning the jacks I would recommend using Caigs DeOxit or if you are in Europe Kontakt60. If you pop the top it will be easier but you can also spray through the hole and get good results. Just spray the contacts and exercise them with a 1/4 inch plug. Repeat a couple of times and the jacks will be good as new.

Without having a schematic available I would look for cold solder joints, exercise the pre/post switch, reseat the board connectors and other stuff like that.

Is there a schematic available here somewhere? I might bring it to a guy I trust that has about 35 years experience working on just about everything.

There's a note about the way to fix this in the FAQ. Mechanical cleaning is needed, usually just plugging and unplugging a bunch. The spray on is not as effective.

Cleaning the effects return jack cures over 95% of F-1X output issues, especially on a newly acquired used piece - if the jack is either not used or left plugged in all the time, it can cause the corrosion that causes the problem.

I can email you a schematic (just email me a request for it), but I would save your $$ and try cleaning the effects return jack yourself first.

Sounds like a good idea Mica...thank you...The serial number is 901096, no hand written numbers for a date although I see a 9307 stamped on one of the boards. I figured I should change the tube as well, I am having a difficult time removing the old one though any hints at removing?

I wouldn't bother with the tube just yet, it's very rarely the cause issue you describe. But, after you slide the sleeve down, it's best to clean the tube with rubbing alcohol and if you are using a rubber gripper, clean that off as well. The tube pulls out, but it's hard to do it, afterall, we don't want it to vibrate out
