Recording with an Alembic

Hi everyone.Just discovered this forum and damn glad that I did.I use an Epic 4 string exclusivly for live,as well as,recording sessions,that I bought back in 1994.Currently,it's the only bass that I own.Plus an SF-2 Superfilter.Everybody loves the tone I get with the two combined with a SWR SM-400 with one or two Eden 4/10 XLT cabs.I run the SF-2 in the FX loop.Just finished a recording with one of the groups that I play with using only the Epic and it recorded beautifully.I have a fairly high action set-up and use the biggest roundwound DR strings available.If anybody would like,check out the links I've provided to see a couple of bands I currently work for.

Hi David,
welcome.
Something you said interest me: I'm also playing that old SWR SM 400 but I use two Glockenklang cabinets: a quattro and a uno (resp. 4x10 + horn and 1x15). But that's a different story. What I would ask: tell me more about the SF-2 in combionation with that amp. I find the SWR SM400 already large in tone-capacity and you have a lot of knobs to tweek. So, what is the SF-2 doing? I'm asking I was thinking to sell the SWR and go to a power ampifier and the SF-2 on top of that. Do I have to keep the SWR?

Hey Paul,
I run the SWR EQ settings flat with the SF-2 in the effects loop controlling highs,mids and lows.I'm not real sure if the SF-2 can be used as a stand alone pre-amp or not although I'm sure it can.Check in the SF-2's user manual and see.Look forward to checking out your rig.

You can use the SF-2 as a preamp, we provide a front input jack for that purpose. We intended it so if you build a component system, you can start using it right away if you buy the SF-2 first. We also thought it would be useful for learning how to use the Superfilter. Just using the SF-2 and the power amp will eliminate tonal influences from the preamp, so you can really tell what the SF-2 is doing and apply that experience from a more informed perspective.  
 
If you like the sound of a tube preamp, you won't get it from using the SF-2's preamp function. You'll need a tube preamp in the system as well.

I'll keep that in mind.
The ideal combination would be: DS5R - SF2 - FX1 - Poweramp I guess?
I know I made a lot of jokes about Alembic-players being knob-tweeking-lovers the past month but I think that whole battery of tone control possibility is rather overwhelming and maybe a little bit over the top. Or is it learnable?
Maybe I should Start a new thread on this.

Hello, my name is clint,and I have two Alembics. One is the Stanley Clark Signiture Series and the other is the Spoiler. I have been recording with orgestras and groups,And every time I record,the engineer or conductor makes it a point to come over to and compliment the tone of my bass.Other then the fact that it makes me feel good,It lets me know that I made a very good investment. I LOVE MY BASSES!

I used to dread recording situations because the engineer would always want to run my bass direct instead of mic-ing my amp. I relied heavily on my amp to get the sound I wanted.  
NOT ANYMORE! The sound I want is already there. I have been totally pleased with every recording I've done since getting my Spoiler.
