What kind of spoiler is this?
« on: November 08, 2015, 04:11:14 PM »
I saw this Spoiler today on like and wondered what it would really be classed as.
It looks like series II electronics and maybe the hum canceller is in the body. But there there doesn't seem to be a 5  pin socket. Maybe it's anniversary electronics with a master volume and rotary 3 position or 2 position q-switches.
Any more educated guess?
Looks great though and that tree of life inlay is one I really love.

That's in a thread at talkbass in the 8-string club. I asked - I was intrigued myself - owner said this:

This was a custom prototype circuit which is across between Anniversary/Series 2

I agree with Greg.  There doesn't appear to be hum canceler.

Here's the explanation from the owner: "It has a prototype "one off"circuit which is a cross between Series II and Anniversary(CVQ controls ,no humcanceller).Sounds amazing although was a challenge for Ron to set up.Body is slimmer than the Series II at that time. The two switches are for mono/ stereo and LED on/off. The custom circuit offers a vast array of tonal possibilities but installing the CVQ used up considerable "bench time" for Ron.This might have been the only time dual CVQ has been fitted outside of Series II. Mica mentioned that this is one of the few things that Ron would not do again." (pickups are AXY)

I guess it uses two 9V batteries to power the pre amp??
Pity it was a pain to calibrate as it wuold be a great option for people who cannot afford Series II basses

Inlays are amazing! I'd like to see a full shot of the fingerboard.

I cant imagine with that customised cvq system and inlays that it would have been cheaper than a series II at the time it was made.
