Heartbreak turned into joy
« on: July 24, 2003, 12:00:19 PM »
A word from a new guy.
Back in January of this year my 1979 Gibson RD Artist was stolen (highschool graduation present).  With insurance $ in hand I thougth I'd give a call to Alembic and ask the girl who answered a few questions.  For 30 minutes I recevied the lesson of my life about bass guitars from Susan Wickersham (Ma'am, why are you answering the phone???).  I then knew it was time for me to be baptized into the Alembic experience.  After 5 months of waiting for my Orion 5 string the pain of losing the only bass I've ever had has turned into the greatest musical experience of my life.  Thanks Susan and Mica for all the extras, and the time you took personally for me.  The cocabola fingerboard is lusious!  I can play things I don't even know how to play.  I have fallen in love once again with playing the bass.. New calouses and blisters attest to my endless nights of joyful practice.   Look forward to what else is in store.   Gibson RD what???

Ah Pastor Scott,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the club!!!!  We are a wierd bunch, but very fun and knowledgeable.  That sure is a beautiful Orion!!!  Congratulations!!!  The people at Alembic sure are special aren't they?
Funny, I was just having this conversation with my 7 year old daughter last night about how sometimes you have to give something up that is precious to gain something nicer.  Of course we were talking about toys and not stolen basses...very unfortunate but, look what came of it.
I'm sure the others will chime in soon.
Welcome!!!!

Peace,
Dino

Thanks Dino-
I've been called weird more than knowledgeable.  Perhaps hanging out here will help the latter.  Thanks for the warm welcome.  Toys, or Basses, I guess life's lessons can be taught at any stage of life.  I'd love to know what your bass experience are.  If you get time let me here a little somethin somethin.

Welcome Pastor Scott!

We can help with knowledge, but as for the wierd, you're on your own! J/K We are all wierd ;)

That is a sad story with a very happy ending! Your first experience with your Alembic could echo those of most people here, myself included. And that Orion looks awesome!

Now I need to talk to Dino about that toy he convinced his daughter to give up......

Pastor

Welcome - no doubt there is (or already has been) a sermon based on your experience.

Yes, the Lord does work in mysterious ways !

Welcome aboard.  I had one of those conversations with Susan once, Mica later, bought an Alembic, found the Club, and my life has been different ever since.  I often say I'm not sure if I own this bass or IT owns ME.  I'm sure you'll learn this feeling shortly. . . .

The best thing about Alembic's is that they make you want to play more often which leads to better playing.Beautiful Orion ya' got there and welcome to the family.

Welcome to the Alembic community.

Much as the wood, the electronics, and the craftsmanship make Alembic special, it is the unique people who make and play them that make the Alembic Club, and the experience of owning an Alembic special.
