Spoiler posing as a Spyder

I'm not ashamed to say that I portray John Entwistle in a Who tribute group based here in Los Angeles.  I have an early 80's Spoiler, Exploiter shape, with a very nice quilted maple top - I guess it's as close as I can get to a Spyder without actually owning one.  I'm accepting donations to save up for one!
 
This bass sounds great through my rig - A Trace Elliot AH600 (yes it's a 600 - rare and VERY powerful) through a 2x10 and 1x15.  I use a simple (original series) Ibanez Tube Screamer to get my distortion sound - compresses the sound a bit too much (thins it out) but gets the job done in terms of creating a dirty sound.  I can only imagine what a real Series II would sound like!

Ox:  From the pictures on your website, your bass has nothing to make excuses about.  The quilting shows strong even in weak lighting.  Very sharp looking.  How about posting some pictures in Showcase?

Yes I will post some pictures soon.  The quilting is very strong on this bass, it definitely has that Entwistle mojo.  I love the fact that I actually OWN the nicest bass I've ever played!

I am also a die-hard JE fan and I own a Spyder 4 and a Spyder 8 as well as an Ovation Acoustic bass that belonged to John.
It is really great that you keep the spirit of John alive in doing this Who Show.

ox_juniour, I know what you mean about owning the nicest bass I have ever played.
 
I have a SC Deluxe and i've never played anything like it. I've never played a Spyder it would no doubt sound amazing but maybe one day I'll get to try one.
 
I'd love to play a series I or II to hear what they sound like in the flesh.  
 
However I do have a personal policy of not touching any instrument I like the look of that i can't afford.  
 
I went against that idea twice and ended up with a lovely strat and my SC fortunately there was a good price reduction on the SC as it was a clearance sale and I had gig money burning a hole in my pocket. :-)

Interesting choice of cabinets.  4x10 with a 15 is common but 2x10 is a little more rare.  How did you arrive at this combination and how is it working for you?  Are there times that this is not enough or even too much?  The reason I'm asking is this is exactly the configuration that I'm looking at, different brand though.

I chose the 2x10/1x15 combination for flexibility.  With such a powerful head, the 2x10 (it has a horn as well) does the job quite well in smaller venues.  When bi-amped with the 1x15, it's plenty screamin' loud and clear (or dirty when I want it to be).  I'm not exactly playing stadiums, but I haven't been in a situation yet where I've had to turn it up past three at the absolute most - anything more than that and I'm drowning out the drummer and guitarist!  I love it when the soundman tells me to turn it down!
