The large size of your rig reminds me of something I read the other night.  I've been reading a biography of Neil Young.  Graham Nash was visiting Neil at his ranch.  Neil takes Graham down to the lake where they row out to the middle.  All of a sudden they are listening to Harvest in stereo.  Neil had wired his entire house as the left speaker and his entire barn as the right speaker.

I can sympathize with doing battle with Marshalls. I had to get myself a 612 cab w/ horn and a 215 cab pushed by 500W. It more than keeps up with the double stack I have to contend with on the other side of the drums. In fact, I found the 612 does the job but is a real pain in the ass to move. The other band members call it the anchor for the Queen Mary. Oddly enough, I can fit it in a VW GTI with room left over for my rack and bass........

i can make out the mesa good on the picture, but what else does that rig consist of in the rack?  what kind of speakers are those?

darkbassist, the 2-15s closest to the rack are  EVMs and the rest of the 15s are Peavey Blackwidows and the 12s are Blackwidows too. the Boogie 2-10 box has Eden 10s, the rack has a 2 way electronic crossover and a 3 way crossover, a Peavey 800 and a Peavey 1200, I have no effects.

Reminds me of the wall of sound that Mr Wickersam made for the Dead. Thats one of the most amazing creations Ive ever read about. I was just reading the book A Long Strange Trip and it has some nice, but brief mentions of the work Alembic did for the Dead. The man is far too modest if ya ask me.

I would agree on both counts. As for the modesty it seems to run in the family. On a thread over in the Alembic Basses and Guitars section Mica writes in reply to a query about a Bose system Monitorless systems in which the band and the audience hears the same thing is someththing we are familiar with. Talk about understatement, to go monitorless and to give everyone from musicians to first row to folks in the back the same sound was, I believe, one of the main purposes of the Wall of Sound. Alas I was not yet of concert going age when the WOS was in use, but have heard some really rave reviews. Anyone out there ever hear it live?

Yep, I saw the Dead twice with the wall of sound outdoors at the Iowa State Fairgounds in Des Moines in the early 70s. It worked very well! Each vocal mic had a pair of elements wired 180? out of phase, which eliminated feedback. The boys would sing into one element, but instrument sounds appeared in both and were electronically cancelled. There was a link on the Grateful Dead homepage to archived old newsletters where the system was illustrated and discussed.
