After over a year of trying different combinations of heads and bottoms I think I finallly found something. I just got a Gallien-Krueger head to go along with my SWR head. I run them through a Peavey 4/10 and a Peavey 1/15 split with a Morley AB switch. The GK goes into the 4/10 and the SWR goes into the 1/15. I set the SWR for as much bottom as posibble without distorting and the GK goes into the 4/10 with a simple distortion box run through effects loop. This along with GK's boost feature has given me everything from clean deep bass to snarly, trebley Entwistle sound. While it won't fill a stadium or a really large venue, it has drawn comments from numerous people at gigs I've played. I have an Epic 4 and the combination of the GK and the SWR seem to be a perfect match.

Hi Peter, which GK head do you have? I've been considering the 700RB II with a 2/10 & 1/15 arrangement. Also why different heads for each cabinet? Does the GK not provide good low end?

any gk head i've tried gives me excellent tone. the only difference is in power and features. the 700rb was awsome when i tried it. i use two different heads because i want the swr to provide strictly bottom as it doesn't have the tonal range as the swr but gives a really clear botttom. also, by splitting the two heads with the morley pedal any effect i run throuth the gk, such as distortion, doesn't cancel out the bottom. i also can shut off either head with this pedal depending on what i am trying to accomplish. great flexibility. any other questions, i would be glad to help you with.

one correction. i'm sorry, where i said the the swr doesn't have the tonal range of the swr, i mean't the tonal range of the gk. please forgive me.

Iv'e been using my GK800RB for some years now,i haven't found anything i would change it for up to now,i use it with Eden 410XLT and 1x15 cabs,most of the time just the 410XLT,great sound with my alembic S/Clarke Deluxe and Epic 5.

just a note to all who are using single heads. i got the idea of using multiple heads for all the range of tones and effects from the who website where they detail Entwistles' gear. If you read it through he does state that he uses one head (stack) for low bass and the other for the treble and effects. The flexibility i've gotten is a lot more than when i used a single head.
