Your pages are timely, Mica, since I'm in the market for my first Alembic, with hope that one day I'll request a special build. There is much to learn and a few club members are helping to educate me, so I'm certain I'll make a good selection (as if there is a bad one; they're all fine basses I'd love to own). I found your updates clear and quite helpful.
As for other feedback from the perspective of a NooB visiting Alembic, it would be nice to show additional examples of body types (K-body vs others, etc). A definition page that would help define terminology such as short and long scale, pan, control filters, various coil pickups, humcanceling, laminate, machine head, etc., or perhaps a standard FAQ for the new visitor that would include such things.
I've noticed there are lots of knowledgeable enthusiasts around here who'd offer input on an FAQ page or a sticky thread, for sure, and I've found this forum a treasure trove of great threads and posts in my quest to learn more. Also, I really enjoyed reading the history of Alembic and look forward to seeing an update to the ongoing Alembic story.
The quality of all the pictures are wonderful, too. In fact, I have one of the Alembic backgrounds on my screen right now. To this effect, it would be great to see a more substantial library of basses and guitars your family and Co has built (it would make great subject matter for coffee-table book). I see many incredible pictures of amazing builds via my internet searches and get a kick out of the ones you've posted on the website... more pics!
Some .wav examples of different sound various neck and body types create would be helpful to me, as well. YouTube serves to define part of that aspect, but I've only found one tutorial in regard to how the varying interface of control function in series and sig basses have direct effect of the specific timber and tonality of the instrument. That is, it's difficult to understand these powerful, dynamic features without hearing them, other than thru artists recordings which do not discuss control set-up, I guess. If anything, it'd be good free advertising to post a few corporate videos on YouTube (so many hours in a day, right?).
I apologize if such resources are already in the works or that I've overlooked them. Thanks for building great basses and facilitating this forum!
Matt
