Me and my Distillate 81

  Always enjoy hearing a Distillate recorded.  
It looks as though the pickups are orientated towards the bridge more than usual?

This Distillate has had a few mods done to it!
These were originally only exported to Japan.If my memory serves me right(and Mica can correct me if I am wrong) The Japs didn't like the fact that the woods were not identical! So production was halted.Anyway,I had a Kent Armstrong fitted in 82 to give me more bite.Recently the Alembic pre-amp failed,and Bernie Goodfellow fitted me a John East Pre-amp.Amazingly it still sounds like an Alembic! I have also owned a 5 string Elan but found I preferred the Distillate for sound and so sold the Elan.Hi Jazzy,yes,if we get up your way I will contact you.All the best.

And just a heads-up - Jap is an extremely offensive term. I don't think you were using it with that in mind, but there are living, breathing Japanese people and people of Japanese descent (myself included) here in the Alembic Club who can't all be lumped together as Japs with a single opinion.

Sorry if I have offended you,it was(as you say unintentional).It's odd that the shortening of a nationality's name should be seen as offensive as here in the UK we are known as Brits and certainly dont see that as offensive.Maybe it's historical.Not sure what you mean by a single opinion either.Jim

Thank you for the response Jim! I live in the United States and work closely with the Japanese-American community, and my mother was Japanese as well. During World War II the shortening of Japan and Nippon (the Japanese word for Japan) were racial slurs, and in this country all people of Japanese descent on the west coast were put into prison camps purely because of their racial background.  
 
I think that a lot of stereotyping is saying that group X feels this way or group Y is like this - of course stereotypes are often rooted in truth, but to assume that they are true often prevents us from seeing people as they actually are. I am a multiracial person who has spent time in both Japan and the US so maybe that's why I am sensitive to this issue. And of course I sometimes say such things about other groups, though I try to be aware of when I am doing it (not all the time) and I appreciate that you could hear what I was saying.

I did a little research and indeed,found there was an issue during the Second World War which,as somebody who was born in the 1950's  was totally unaware of. I suppose,as an Englishman growing up in that time,there were very few other nationality's in our country. It was during the sixtie's that England opened it's doors to other countries,mainly from India and the West Indies.I am obviously aware of previous tensions racially and am aware of being sensitive to certain nationalies I was never aware that there were sensitivities towards Japanese people, so please accept my sincere apologies regarding my words used. I believe there is one world and there is no room for any sort of racism.

Being a WWII history buff I highly suggest ordering a new Alembic build and while you are waiting for it  to be completed watch on Amazon Prime the World War 2 Diaries. It documents all 6 years of WW2 day by day. 70+ hrs of content.
