I just finally got all the pieces and put together my first decent bass rig. It's nothing crazy, but it's my first rig so I have to be excited about it. Heck, I AM still technically a teenager, so I'm gonna act like it as long as I can. Anyways, have a look:

Total cost for the gear and the rack itself: $1096.93! Full retail would be pushing $2500 or so, and these are in great shape. The power amp is NOS, I am the first owner. Everything else is pre-owned in nearly mint condition.

I'm planning on eventually adding in an SF-2, and possibly a compressor/limiter or some rackmount effects (if my back doesn't disagree with moving up to an 8 or 10 space rack). Haven't made up my mind, and haven't had a chance to use what I've got yet (...and also out of $), so time will tell...

Very nice setup. I'm certainly no expert but shouldn't there be some sort of speakers? Kidding aside that should really show off your Distillate right.

Bracheen, it is rare that I laugh aloud from something I read online, but you accomplished the task. I'll show you the cab that I am working with...and you will see why I chose 'working with' rather than 'playing through'...
I am in the process of a damage claim with an unnamed shipping company as this item was structurally perfect before shipment. Anyways (deja vu?), here it is:

I was not a happy guy when I opened that box. I opened it just AFTER carrying it up to my 3rd floor apartment alone. The package was 97 pounds, I am 150. My arms hurt for 2 days, and I still haven't seen a penny in the nearly 2 months (!) that I have had this thing sitting here. As long as I get my money back, I will have no complaints, but it has been TOO long.
... Still waiting (Talking Heads, anyone?)....

BTW, that would be an Ampeg SVR 212, with one front-facing and one rear-facing 12 as well as an attenuable horn. This cab can really bump some bass, but it isn't leaving the apartment til I can fix it up.

Are you sure the cab was good before shipment? The 'before' picture looks like something might not be lined up quite right in the area where it broke. In any case, I hope you get your money back from somewhere!

I do see what you mean, Bob, but I think that is just the angle of the picture. The full extent of the trauma was not visible in the first photo, but here is the rear view of the left side, just out of the box in my apartment.

Other photos were provided beforehand which showed this side intact, and this damage was bound to happen -- the shipper wrapped this amp in a couple of layers of bubble wrap, dropped it in a box, and away it went. Not quite sufficient packing for a 90 pound amp. I have a friend who works at unnamed shipping company who informed me that oversize packages go across a conveyor about 6 feet up, and occasionally packages make a leap to the ground and are then sent on to the destination... That seems to be just what happened to this thing, if everything I have learned about detective work from Law & Order is true (and it's on TV, so it must be).

Nice rig! Sorry about the speaker cab.

Boy, it sure puts to shame the rigs I had as a teenager. I mostly used a Dual Showman through some really weird random cabinets before I finally found an old beat up McIntosh 2105 (that now runs my studio monitors, sans front glass) and a big double 15 JBL cab purpotedly built by Joe Walsh's sound crew. I had no preamp, so I built one into my bass (a 1963 EB2D with Bartolinis).

Thanks for the compliments.

I certainly wouldn't wish the shipping damage experience upon anyone, myself included. I returned the claim form to the shipping company's insurance carrier a couple weeks back, so theoretically a check should be in the mail in the near future.

I plan to chop off the rack and fix up the frame and edges for the remaining section, which would just be a 212 cab with nice handles and removable casters. I will soon be supplementing this with an Eden 210, so I will likely disconnect (or at least attenuate) the horn and use the 212 for the low end and the 210 for the highs. That oughta move a little air...

Here's 'Phase 2' of my rig. I spent last evening with a hacksaw and some sandpaper... The damaged cab is back in working order and halfway decent cosmetic condition. Have a look:

An Epifani 210 is on its way here to supplement the setup. I'll snap another pic of Phase 3 once the Epi arrives on Monday.

Hmmm... Well, I must say, I wasn't expecting the Epifani to be so... HUGE! It is bigger, yet lighter than the 212. I feel compelled now to trade the 212 up to a 115 or 118 to more appropriately complement this Epi cab, but here is the rig in 'Phase 3' as it will stay until my bank account gets a chance to rest...

Thoughts? Comments? Laughter? All are welcome.
