I recently received the following comment from a customer - a busy touring bass player who just bought a F1X and I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this issue:

My only one concern is, the post EQ DI out on the pre amp is very hissy making it fairly unusable as a recording out or a PA out. I've tried it at various venues and everyone's agreed that the post EQ DI sounds much better than the pre EQ DI, but because of the noise, I cant use it... It's a shame to have so much tone, but, not be able to send it anywhere but the speakers.
Have you experienced this with any of the other pre amps?

Any comments would be appreciated.

David; I've used the post EQ DI in recording and on stage. I did not have any problem with hiss. Perhaps it's a problem unique to this particular unit.

Both of mine are dead quiet. The only issue I had was the signal strength. I sent both units back to Santa Rosa and had Ron pad the post-EQ DI by 20dB for them to be usable with the boards that I typically run into.

Hmmm.. my F1X hs the same problem on the DI... that problem being lack of signal strength. You were able to send it to back. How long did it take for them to fix it? Did it cost anything? I bought mine used not new. Hah, looks like I'll be sending them an email.

Jeff-

Your post-EQ DI has a lack of signal strength? Mine were peaking the board - even with a 20dB pad engaged on the bass channel. I had Alembic reduce the post-EQ output level.

I'm sure they can (or any good amp tech can) fix the problem you're having. It cost me about $85 for the fix plus shipping to CA. I think I recall Mica saying it was an hour of bench time - but that was several years ago. What you run into is that Ron does the mods himself, and his bench time is booked months in advance.

My best advice to you would be to call Alembic to discuss your problem and their recommendations for a fix.
