I am curious as to what strings everyone is using. I currently have an endorsement deal with Curt Mangan Strings. Curt worked at Dean Markley for 17 years before deciding to start his own company. I recently purchased an Epic which I strung with Curt Mangan strings. A few days later, I purchased another Epic that had just been strung with a new set of Alembic strings. To be honest, I like the sound and feel of the Curt Mangan strings better. I have been using them for about six months and have found them to last at least as long as the DR Marcus Miller strings that I had used previously. Like all of you, I am in search of that elusive perfect tone. My style is more of the in the pocket type of player than anything else. I do not slap or pop like many of today's players. I do occasionally delve into the John Entwislte, John Paul Jones, James Jamerson realm as well as that of Geddy Lee and John Deacon. The player whose tone I like more than anybody else is Marcus Miller. The style that I like is that of James Jamerson. However my playing has been described more closely to a combination of James Jamerson, John Entwistle and Adam Clayton. (I know, strange combination). My keyboard player, who is a Berklee Grad and teaches music at a prestigous Prep school, has had several songs on the radio, including a number one single. He has told me that I am the best in the pocket player that he has ever seen. I consider that quite a compliment. I do not mention this to boost my own ego, I just want some accurate feedback as to what bassists who play similar styles are using for strings and amps. Thanks, by the way, I LOVE MY EPICS!
