Hartke 4.5 XL?
« on: October 26, 2005, 02:15:55 AM »
I just recently purchased a used Eden VT  300A (300 watt all tube amp) and I'm looking for a speaker cabinet. Has anyone used a Hartke 4.5 XL? Will Lee used one for years before switching to a re-issue Ampeg B15. I like the idea of a cone tweeter. What about the aluminum cones?

I happen to love them. They aren't trendy or super high end, but everytime I've used them either one or 2 cabinets together I've really loved the sound. I use an Ashdown MAG 300 head BTW. I also use the Hartke 2-10 2100 for smaller gigs. Really defined sound but still with a lot of bottoms & mids. I personally like a punchy mid-heavy sound and these cabinets deliver it.

This may be a little too late, but I have a Hartke 4.5 XL that I need to sell.  It is a great sounding cabinet and in good condition.  Let me know if you're still interested in one.

Gale, I auditioned one of these when they first came out 4 or 5 years ago.  I was intrigued whether a cone speaker (the 4.5) would sound smoother than a horn.  It did, but the aluminum cones makes me nervous from a re-coning standpoint, so I ultimately passed on it.  But it was very smooth sounding, lacking that raspy top end that never strikes me as musical for my use.

I have a Hartke 405 cabinet for sale. It has 4 4.5 tweeters in it. I used to use 2 405's on top of 2 410 XL's on top of 2 115 XL's. 2 full stacks but sold all of it when I got 2 Eden 410 XLT's. But I still have the one tweeter cabinet, let me know if you are interested.

I had one for a couple of months. I never was able to get deep tone out of it. Mostly mids and highs. I switched to Gallien Krueger 410RBH and 115RBH cabs and now have a great mix of highs and lows.
