Added an F1-X to my rig
« on: August 05, 2006, 07:07:50 PM »
Folks,

I added an F1-X to my rig that I bought off Ebay while I was in Iraq.  All I can say is it's amazing!  Very simple to use, but yet, the tone is so warm, yet crisp.  I also use an SF-2, so the ability shape tone is limitless.  I was using an SVT IV Pro (a great amp as well), but this is at another level.  If you don't have an F1-X, you owe it to yourself to try one.  Believe me, it's all that.

I'm using a used QSC MX 1500 at the moment.  It weighs a ton, but it is quiet and has more than enough power for my needs.

I'm also going down the F-1x, SF-2 and QSC power amp route having just won an e-bay auction for an f-1x. Whilst I'm not really that versed into bass amps, ( i'more of a guitarist really and a frustrated bass player lol ), It's been great to tap into the experience here and thats really how I have come to the decision to stick with the alembic sound right up to the end of the point of entry into a power amp. I'm not unhappy with my current bass rig it has a great sound butI think I understand their sound more so its probably teh right time to move up a gear to get the best sound I can afford for them.

Not sure which QSC to go for yet but, I'm saving my pennies and hopefuly by the time I decide I will be in a position to make a good informed choice.
Cheers

I've also just won an F1-X from Ebay. Looking forward to seeing how I can use it in my rig - It may make the Eden redundant. I know how good it will sound as I've used Mike Pisanek's rig on occasion.

Just to chime in here...

I picked up an F1-X of Ebay last year and I've been thrilled with the sound. I grabbed a QSC RMX 1850 because I was able to get a great deal on a new one. I was thinking about going the PLX route just for the weight difference but I almost never gig anymore so it really isn't an issue. The RMX comes in at around 50lbs I think but if you put it in its own rack then it's not bad. You just don't want to put it into a 6 space rack filled with all your other stuff. If you were thinking about putting it in with other rack equipment then I would seriously suggest considering going with the PLX series.

The F1-X is awesome but I really do wish that I had a SF-2 for fine tuning.

Jazzy though I bought a QSC-PLX 3002 to go in Tweak Peaks (see http://alembic.com/club/messages/393/30771.html?1156333007) I always considered the E15 of MC2 a good alternative. MC2 is a UK(see http://www.mc2-audio.co.uk/e15/) based poweramp constructor!
I never played the F1-X much as a stand-alone unit (what maybe I should have done for some time) but the whole set-up with a SF-2 is killing ...with a patience of course!
You HAVE some learning to do!!

Hmm, I just visited the site for the Mc2 amp. Prices way off my budget. Especially as I'm not gigging regularly on bass at the moment.

Just to let you know, I got a second hand PLX 2402 this afternoon and although I haven't tried it with my boogie speakers it sounded great in the shop using  lesser speakers and my F-1X, so I can only imagine it's gonna sound great.

I need to get hold of speakon to jack cables as my cabs only use hack sockets. Then I can try it at home.

I'll probably keep the Boogie walkabout as a backup amp or if i'm doing a small gig where I only need to drive my 2x10.
