Hello all, including heironymous and hb3,

I decided to indulge in one of my favorite nostalgia's: I've recorded a version of the Kraid's Lair stage from the classic Nintendo game Metroid. The original was in 6/8, but I've switched it to more of a swing feel 4/4.

I recorded this tune with my '04 Stanley Deluxe as well as a Worker Bee 7-string bass and my recently acquired Moog Little Phatty (fabulous tool, btw...).

Pardon the crappy youtube sound, but I don't currently have another website to post to that would give better audio...

Nice work! How many tracks are there, and how long did it take you to do it?

There are five tracks of Moog (including the bass drum during the breakdown), one track of the Stanley, one track of the Bee, and about four guitar tracks (played on an old Ibanez Artist with EMG's).

I would say it took 15-20 hours of studio time altogether.

Sounds great! I've only played Metroid a little bit on Gameboy, so not familiar with the music, but I enjoyed it! Especially when the bass comes in at about 1:10 - is that the Alembic? I like the part at about 1:45 too when the bass & synth are playing interlocking lines. Are you playing the drums too?

I always forget how long it takes to mix stuff!

Yes, the bass at 1:10 is the ole Stanley Deluxe through just a touch of SansAmp RBI and plug-in delay (I'm running ProTools 7.0). I had recorded that part with my Bee and my fretted Wal Mach I also, but in the end, the Stanley sounded best and was kept in the mix.

I wish I could take credit as the drummer, but the dirty little secret is that those are BFD, a plug-in on ProTools. Pretty adaptable program that saves me a lot of headaches.

eliglam..I think I will dig out my son's old SNES system and the cartridge and relive the late 80's/early 90's.
Superb rendition and a lot of work gone into it.

Played Metroid but got side tracked with Super Mario Bros!
Those old style graphics were the state of the art in there day..gaming has jumped light years since then.
