Preamp Through Effects Loop
« on: November 20, 2005, 04:30:31 PM »
Hi guys. I've been considering a Tribute or Further, and am wondering if anyone runs a preamp through the effects loop. I'd like the option of pulling both of my preamps in and out with the flick of the effects loop switch. If anyone has done this, does it work ok? I'm not exactly sure of the electronics setup for the loop, so I'm just wondering if this would have a negative impact on the sound. Thanks!

Hi Robert and welcome to the club.

The Further/Tribute effects loop can be wired either pre- or post- the guitar's controls.  So I would think (but I'm not an electronics expert) if you had the loop after the guitar's controls, your proposal should work just fine.

Thanks for the reply and friendly welcome, Grateful. I guess I'll try to get some more info from Susan when I talk to her about pricing.

Robert, I'd be interested in the repsonse. I have a Tribute (See Gil's Tribute in the showcase section), and I've never adjusted the effects loop. Basically, I haven't had the stones to do any adjusting.

Jer replaced the preamps on his guitars, esp wolf a lot.  You should check out dozin.com for some more info on that.

I am also interested in what Susan has to say about this.  I have a Tribute, but haven't tried using the FX loop this way.  Good luck!

Wow, missed this one last month! There's nothing at all stopping you from experimenting in this way, but you won't know if you'll like the sound until you try.

After checking with my dad, he thinks you'll probably want to put an attenuator on the output of the preamp that's in the effects return so you don't get a volume shift when you switch between settings.

Thanks, Mica! I have a trip planned for February to test a Tribute out, and I'm hoping I'll have a chance to experiment with the effects loop and something similar to my setup. I'll let you know, and may be contacting you with more questions.
