Author Topic: Relative volume of Alembic guitars (Read 153 times)

I'm curious about something - where do Alembic guitars fall regarding straight-ahead volume? For example, if I plug in a garden-variety Strat at full volume it will be nowhere near as loud a Les Paul at full volume. Generally speaking of course, are Alembics closer to one or the other?

Hi Justin,

My new Further, with one activator, is slightly louder than my Ibanez Artist and much louder than my Strat. The activators all add to the signal, so with all three on it is very loud. The volume control doesn't alter anything but the volume however, so you can also have it as quiet as you like. It's a new experience for me.

Thanks for that info, very interesting. I had assumed they'd be louder, but thought I'd ask to be sure.

How's your Further treating you?

They are louder only if you want them to be. All Alembics have at least one trim pot in the control cavity that allows you to adjust the maximum output level to whatever you want it to be.

As Mark said, you can turn down the volume pot as well, where you get the benefits of active electronics. But you should be able to set the trimpot to match the output from your other guitars, and use the full range of the volume pot.

I failed to mention the trim pots (thanks Adriaan), there's one for each activator in a Further. She's a dream: several quantum leaps above anything I've played before. I doubt I'll ever touch another electric: unless I acquire a second Alembic .

The volume really doesn't effect the tone when I turn it down on my Tribute, it works really well. But I must admit I'm a little wary of messing with the trim pots. They set it up perfectly at the shop and I think I'll just screw it up if I get started. But if you're inclined, they will restore your pots to their original place the 1st time for free. Also, you can take a sharpie pen and mark where the trim pot starts and then be able to return to that point yourself. Enjoy your guitar, Iknow mine has changed how I play and approach the guitar.
