I've just accquired my first ever Alembic (see Premature Felicitations thread on the introductions page, if you're curious) and would be very intersted to find out what kind of strings are fitted to it, as they suit the instrument very well.

They are visually very distinctive, as they each have a different colour winding on the top end and all have turquoise thread wound around the bottom end.

I'm sure that some of you out there will know what make and model these strings are just from that description, but here's a picture anyway:

Those are D'Addario strings. I think I remember that they are called Slow Wound or something like that. I used those for a while too. Good strings. Now I am on a flatwound kick.

Interesting, thanks Michael. If I can't find anything better, I'll come back to those.

By the way, what flatwounds have you tried? I tried a few out on my '62 reissue Precision and found that the LaBella Deep Talkin flats were by far the smoothest feeling and biggest sounding of the lot! Just my opinion mind!fender32

Slowounds are no longer made.
I have a few sets that I picked up when they discontinued them.

The flats I use are the D'Addario Chromes. Nice string and in my opinion much brighter sounding than the LaBella's. Other people refer to the Chromes as more of a rock string, but I use them for all types of music. I find they really cut through.

I second the Chrome's. I use them on my fretless. I was really surprised how bright they could be yet I can still get plenty of MWAH.

I use DR for many years. Now I use Curt Mangan Nickel or Stainless Steel. Nice and punchy, they really cut through. LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass Stainless Steel flats are very bright... these aren't the same as the vintage style LaBella flats. They sound like round wounds but without the ringing treble. Great strings. Not as dull as Chromes.
