So...I just added an F-2B to my rig.

Sadly, my S-F2 has stopped working, so I havn't been able to try them out together. Bass Central told me to ship the unit to Alembic for repair.

I'm very pleased with the warmth of the F-2B with the Skylark. The range of the thing is surprising, as is the volume it puts out. We've been recording in a large warehouse, and I wasn't able to turn the thing up pass 1. The low end is very very nice (though I also have to leave it set at 1, or else its too much). The high end can easily become shrill, so that is staying rolled back as well.

I'll be excited to try it in conjunction with the S-F2 once it gets repaired.

Cool. What is the rest of your rig?

I'm running a Skylark> SF-2> F-2B> Mesa 2:50> Tone Tubby 2x12

I got the SF-2 up and running (burnt out transistor fuse, apparently). Got to try the two Alembic boxes together, and I was amazed at how well they complimented each other. I was really able to dial in a home base sound with the F-2B, then refine its details with the S-F2.

I'm currently using the S-F2 before the F-2B. Would it be better to reverse that?

I'm waiting for my F-1x to arrive and it's interesting that you are using an alembic bass pre-amp for guitar and also the s-f2 which is what I plan to try anyway as a way of combining my guitar and bass amplification setup. I was thinking of replacing my guitar setup but after doing a gig this weekend with my Fender Twin, I just love it's sound and am now loath to get rid of it so I will keep that and use the component system as a backup rig.

James; in my bass rig the SF-2 is downstream from the F-2B. However, I'm guessing there isn't necessarily a right way; try both and see which one works best for you. One thing that's kind of helpful is to try to picture the frequency curve at each stage of the chain. I guess my theory is to set up the basic tone with the F-2B and then sculpt that resulting tone with the SF-2. When I play a gig, I rarely touch the F-2B; I make all my adjustments on the SF-2 (excepting of course tone changes made on the instrument itself).
