Fatboy in the neck + bridge VS AXY/MXY in the neck & Fatboy in the bridge.

Thanks for adding further comments.

We spoke about this off line via email with Joey, and I suggested something interesting (I think).

AXY/MXY could be the better option for recording/tracking...
Fatboys could be the better/good option for live work...

I heard some guys use lighter gauge for recording and heavier for live work, and many use strictly D.I (direct (butox) injection)for recording, and Amps for live work. So, I though that this could translate in AXY/MXY for recording and Fatboys for live gigs. I personally don't gig, so I don't need huge bass, and I don't have an amp, I always D.I for tracking. I haven't had the chance to try two AXY/MXY yet, I hope I will somedays...

Intersting comments fellas. Anyone added Fatboys into a SC in either position?

Hi Raymond, I bought a used fretless Excel a year ago and it has the Fatboy at the bridge, with a MXY situated mid-ships. The usual descriptives apply: muscular, yet clear; gritty, yet detailed; I sound like a wine critic, yet I'm discussing a bass. Is the bass pictured in your profile one of your custom builds? It's a beaut!

Hi Reid

If you are referring to me yes, they are self made basses. My fave is the  fly shaped one, now  with 2  alembic Js. The one in the profile has a spalted maple top & back , sapele core. The neck is a status graphite ebay acquisition. The hardware is ABM and  the pickups were Fatboys but now AXYs.  Dual vol and filter set up, and  a neutrik locking jack.
