I had my SC deluxe in the basement, in the case, with the case open...I stepped outside to chat on the phone,came back in 10 minutes later and water was everywhere...IT was pouring onto my bass.

I wiped the bass off, to get the surface water off, than removved the pup covers and electronics cavities. The inside seems dry, it appears that only the surface of the instrument got wet, but I dried everything with a hair dryer.

Anything else I should check on the bass?

The case is likely ruined, it is soaked through with water...

I cant f'ing beleive this...

Don't do any more aggressive drying. Getting wet isn't as much of a problem as drying out quickly. But, since it doesn't sound like your bass was submerged, you should be okay. It probably wouldn't hurt to oil the fingerboard if it starts to look a little dry after the water evaporates.

If you have some sunny days ahead, you can dry the case outside, and if it isn't stinky, you might salvage it. If there is a slight odor, but no signs of mildew or mold (which won't grow if it isn't moist), you can freshen the scent up with a few drops of that lovely pure lemon oil that I always talk about for fingerboard care.

I think the pump for the dishwasher went bad...water was literally pouring from the ceiling in the basement. The SC deluxe got rained on, but it looks like water did not make into the electronics. My taylor 714CE was in the case which got wet,, but the guitar was fine...Had an expensive telescope down there, a laptop, various amps and cabs that barely missed getting wet....

I think the SC will be ok, thank God, but Im going to have insurance pay for a new case....

THis is the second case of major water damage Ive had in less than a year (two different houses)....

Now to go down a few stiff drinks...

Wow. Do you have a really low deductable? Not meaning to pry. But, it seems it would be easier to just buy a new case. Unless of course it was a custom flight case.

I had a clothes washer do that to me last year. Fortunately, my girlfriends were no where near it.

yeah, dectable is $250.00, so thats no problem....
This really blows, because the basement is the only place i have to practice at....

Wow, what an emotional swing this little thread took. First, I really felt bad about the flood. Then, like Chuck, was overjoyed to see Mica's name on the board again!

So Greg, I hope everything is going to be ok. Sounds like the SC will be fine, and that's a relief.

First, welcome back and thanks for the prompt reply Mica....it certainly put my mind at ease...

I think the SC is indeed going to be fine, the water didnt penetrate any electronics cavity or unfinished surface of the wood except the fretboard, and that was wiped off....Im amazed I got off so lucky (knock on wood)....The case is ruined, the nice plush interior now consists of coarse, matted material that would probably scratch the finish...Im thinking of putting any money from an insurance claims towards a flight case for my SC....

I had hoped to renovate this basement for use as a
studio/music room/crash area, but after this, that idea just simply isnt going to work.....

If your basement was inundated with ground water then you certainly wouldn't wish to finish it. But dishwasher mishaps rarely happen and I would not let it dissuade you from making a studio/music room/crash area of your dreams. A minor setback, if you will.

Nice to see Mica's name on the board, sleepless nights not a bother or flexible working hours??

On another note..the flood..ever think of storing on the wall, I know you shouldn't hang guitars from the headstock but you don't need to be a construction engineer to fashion supports for the whole instrument and any other delicate electronic equipment.
Lucky escape..water damage is as bad as smoke/fire damage
