To all Spyder owners: information needed
« on: December 05, 2004, 03:27:51 AM »
Dear Spyder owners,
as you all know I am totally happy with my Spyders and also am in permanent love with John original ones.
What do you think of bringing the Spyder owners a bit more together?
I am thinking of maybe doing a small Spyder Owners Club or at least bring all the Spyders together in the showcase section. There are only a few in at the moment. Another idea was maybe to do a small book on the Spyders including Johns original ones.
What do you think?
I would recommend to get your ideas or suggestions.
Also I would ask every Spyder owner to send me two pictures of their Spyder (one instrument pic and one pic when you are playing) as well as the serial number (xx/50 or xx/25)to collect them to build up a data base of each Spyder.
As said, let me know what you think or send me your pics and s/n to my email address: senmen@web.de

Many greetings
Oliver (Spyderman)

Oliver,

Sounds like a good idea to me (the book and the Spyder Owners club).  Don't know how Alembic might take it, e.g., they might think that Spyder owners are trying to be exclusive of other Alembic model owners if we ask them to set a section in the club aside for Spyders.  Maybe a small book hung on this site with Alembic's permission might be a better way to go.

Either way, I'll get some better pics of my Spyder and send them to you.  Won't be able to get them to you until I get back from Korea in about a week or so, though.

Best regards,

Alan

I like the idea but feel the same as Alan - don't want to alienate our friends at Alembic by going solo.  I'll send you some of mine as well.

Just speaking for myself as an Epic owner (or am I owned by the Epic?) I wouldn't be offended or feel slighted. There's nothing wrong with a niche within a niche that's done tastefully and with respect to others.  Showcase already has a Spyder section. My opinion.

I think there is a lot of context around the Spyder and its identification with John.  It's a vibrant, cool thing that's somewhat unique among Alembic models (even the JPJ triple O doesn't seem to get discussed with the same sense of cultural significance).  I agree wholeheartedly with Sam:  I think it would be fine to make a special place within the Club for Spyder enthusiasts and owners to enjoy what they have in common (I'd certainly like to see the pix).

Although it's OK with me, in fact, I look forward to it, my Exploiter might start suffering from some sort of inadequacy complex!!! I'm sure it'll get over it though....

Dear guys,
many thanks for your comments.
Maybe my idea was a bit too fast coming
out and not well thought about.
I didn?t think about the matter that this could be a separation.
Sorry guys, let?s keep the Alembic family together.

Many greetings

Its so nice to see that in this Christmas season, we can agree to the equality of pointy and round Alembics!

Larry,
of course!
No matter what Alembic, either pointy or round.
Only one thing counts: ALEMBIC!

Personally I prefer round curves to touch, to play with and to look at...

Ollie,

On reflection ... maybe it's a good idea after all.  Based on the posts I don't think folks would take offense to it.  We're not trying, after all, to separate ourselves from the Alembic faithful.  Rather, we're trying to note a specific time in Alembic history with the production of the Spyders.

A club with the Spyders would be a good thing, IMHO after thinking about it.  We might also include the Dragon's Wing, and any other Alembics that John used.  He, like Stanley Clarke, Mark King, John Paul Jones, Greg Lake, etc., is one of the bassists most closely associated with Alembic.  Might as well have a club that celebrates his memory and instrument of choice.

In any event, I stand by ready to provide pics of my Spyder and Dragon's Wing.

All the best,

Alan

Alan,
many thanks for your kind words. We should share our thoughts in planning a JE inspired club.
Many congrats to your Dragon Wing.
You will love it.
