Concert DVD or Video
« on: January 15, 2005, 12:00:39 AM »
I'm posting this e-mail I sent to Mica in the hope of some similar taste and minded persons out there might be able to help out. Thanks.
Hi Mica,
Saw your post of last Oct. of S. Clark's new bass. Any chance of getting
a dvd of the concert  The Right Of Strings with DiMeola and Luc Ponti? These
3 are all in my top ten favorite artist. I'm from Scandinavia and very, very
sad to say, I have never seen any of them perform live; not even on video! I
have followed these artist since the Return to Forever and Cosmic Messenger
days. Please help me get to see any them play live. Thank you and it's
pleasure to be able to see and read all the postings in your club site.

Here is a DVD of Stanley on upright with Chick Corea, Lenny White and Joe Henderson from 1982.  It's short but very good!

Here's one of Di Meola.  I've never seen it.

Here's one of Jean-Luc Ponty from 1999.  Haven't seen it either; but it looks enticing.  I might have to pick this one up.

Here's another Di Meola.  Haven't seen it either.

I'll chime in here! When Rite of Strings came out (about 10 years ago?), I bought it and was blown away by how great it is (I was not too familiar with Jean Luc Ponty, nor Al DiMeola's extreme talent on the acoustic guitar). Just this summer, I accidentally caught the ad that they were touring together, and I lucked out and got 3rd row Orchestra Pit seats at the Detroit Opera house! It was the most amazing show I've ever seen, they played some great songs off of the CD, and each had a solo spot as well. First time I've seen Stanley Clarke live, and all I can say is that for his solo on the stand up bass, he *attacked* that thing. I can't describe it any other way, but I thought the bass should have been in pieces when he was done!!! I so hope a show was recorded and will be released on DVD.

This summer there are a few dates scheduled for a trio comprised of Jean-Luc Ponty, Stanley Clarke and Bela Fleck.  I would love to see that; but they are no where near my location.  For those of you more fortuitously located, or more willing to travel, the dates are:

June 16  Vienna, VA (Washington DC)
  Wolf Trap Filene Center
June 19  Lyons, Colorado
Planet Blue Grass - Telluride Festival
August 11 Lancaster, PA
  American Music Theater
August 13  Newport, RI
  JVC Jazz Festival
August 21  Los Angeles, CA
  Hollywood Bowl - JVC Festival

WoW,
I saw the Video at stanleyclarke.com.
I was here in TOKYO JAPAN in 1981!
We were all crazy at the time.
You can find all audience flooded in the stage.
And SC shouted again Be cool, Relax!.
This stage is most impressive moment.
Because I got my first Alembic (Dis-B) at this year, and started my Alembic life.

Dave, thank you for the info.
