The family and I are going to SLC on spring break. None of us has ever been there before. Should be fun.

Yo, JLPICARD. I just saw a post on another thread where you mentioned that you live and gig in SLC. I will be in SLC on spring break on about March 13-15 or 16. I'd like to hit a guitar store while I'm out there. Any suggestions? We'll be mainly staying downtown. If you're gigging around there Sun-Mon-Tues PM maybe I could show up. Post something or feel free to e-mail me.

Hi Rich, I do indeed live in SLC. Unfortunately most of the cool local shops were forced out when the Mars/Guitar Center pestilence swept throught the town. There is one cool shop remaining, in fact thriving called Guitar Czar on 33rd south and about 30th east. Eric the owner is about as great a guy as you'll ever find behind the counter in a music store. He has a good selection of pro gear, a knowledgable staff ( unlike most Guitar Centers) great prices, and even does excellent setup and repair work.
Let me know when your coming and I'll set up a meeting /jam session if you like with the three other Alembic players in this area that I know of. one of them happens to be the local Alembic dealer Tom Gardiner. Between the four of us there are about ten different Alembics that you can check out! Mike

But Mike you forgot to mention that 2/3 of the alembic basses in slc are left handed 8^). Although I must add that playing one of Mike's Alembics, even upside down, convinced me that Alembic was the bass for me.
Guitar Czar is certainly worth a stop, although last time I was in there the only higher end basses were a couple of Gibson Tobias models.

Mike/Dave. Thanks for the input. I don't have a real schedule for mid March yet. When I do I'll get back on here and see what we can do. I'm always up for a jam session. We'll see what the family can work in. Dropping the wife and boys off somewhere would not be a good move, though.
As far as Guitar Czar goes, what I'm looking for is pretty basic so any good shop will do. I'd like to say that I want to walk out of there with an Alembic but I don't see that happening this trip. I agree about Guitar Center. It works most of the time if I know what I want and know that they have it (I call first). I think they have an entirely new staff every time I'm there.
I hope this SLC trip will work out. I'm getting pretty jealous reading about this NoCal/MidCal thing that seems to be coming together.
Thanks, again.

Hey Rich,
Let us know how the SLC trip goes for you, and let us know what you find. I'll be sure to keep you, as well as everybody else, informed of further developments in the Alembiconvention.
Peace,
Darrell

Dear Cal Conventionaires. Thanks for letting me borrow some of your space here. I don't want to clog up your thread anymore so I started one called Spring break in SLC. If this works out we'll have to post a story and some pics.
