Alembic Convention for Alembicians and Potential Alembicians?
« Reply #15 on: January 04, 2005, 10:35:10 AM »
Hey all you Sacto denizens.  Anyone want to come down to the World Guitar Show (& basses too!) this weekend at the Marin County Civic Center (only about 1.5 hours from Sacto)?  If people are interested, perhaps we could meet at a predesignated time and place (like maybe noon at the front door) and all go to lunch together?  I have been to these shows (2x a year) for the past few years and have always got my ten bucks worth (the admission fee).  There are hundreds of guitars, basses, and other instruments, and usually an Alembic bass or two.  Last summer's show had two Alembic guitars, the Electrum I bought, and an old Series 1.  I have also picked up several other insruments over the years at pretty good prices.  I would suggest bringing any guitar/bass reference and/or price guide books you may have, just in case.  I leave mine in the car so that if I see an instrument I have a question about, I can look it up and get an idea of value.  You can also sell and trade instruments.  Big fun.  Anyone interested?

Here is a link for more info, (I previously posted this link in the Miscellaneous section, but I thought it fit in with the direction this thread has taken).

Not a bad idea Darrell, I wonder how many people there are in VA that would like to be a part of a club.

Thanks dragonslayer,

You can be the VA chapter for Alembic Owner's.  We all have to start somewhere.  I think it's long overdue to have an Alembic get together, even if it means at different locations, and have our Alembics meet there distant cousins.

Let's keep in touch,
Darrell

There appears not to have been an overwhelming response to setting up a meet/lunch.  If anyone does go to the show and sees a guy about 6'2 with graying hair in a ponytail and an Alembic sweatshirt on, it's probably me.  Come up and say hi.  I'll probably be there on Saturday morning and maybe again on Sunday for the last hour or so (3-4).

Bill,

I'll look out for ya, I'm 5'6, and I wish I could wear an Alembic Shirt, but I don't have one...yet.  I may be in a Black Jacket that says Rhythm City Productions or a t-shirt with Guam on it.

No kidding, I have a friend who's daughter is getting ready to go there for two years.  Did you come to be in California through the USAF?
Anyway sounds like ya'll are going to have a good time. To bad the timing is not right for a trip to the West Coast. Someone please remember to bring a digital camera.

Sam,

Pass on some important advice to your friend's daughter.  I don't know what her age is, but if she is at least a teenager on up, please make sure she is with someone who knows the island very well, no exceptions!!!  I love my people, but there are some locals that will take advantage of mainlanders.  Also, the locals are referred to as either Guamanians or Chamorros.

Here are a couple of nice to know phrases to pass on to your friend's daughter:

Hafa Adai (Hoffa-day) = Hello, how are you
Todo Mauleg (taw-doo-mall-egg) = I'm doing fine
Si Yuus Maase (See-zoo-oos-ma-see) = Thank You

That will make breaking the ice a lot easier.

Thanks Darrell, I'll do that. She is 21 and will be going there with her husband in the military. I don't know if he's been before or not.

Wow, I suspect that would greatly increase the draw of such a get-together.  This doesn't sound like half a dozen guys meeting up in someone's basement anymore.  Sounds like it could be turning into a real production.  If so, you better get a planning team in the works now if you're going to do this so you can work with Stanley on his schedule, see how many would be interested in travelling in, and identify the right size of venue for the meet.
