Mica, Could I get a build record for my SeriesI bass ser.# 77649.

On these old ones, there's just a little bit of info:
 
77-649 LBI-4, Long scale bass, Series I 4-string
top: Schedua
back: Schedua
neck: Maple (no laminates recorded)
fingerboard: Ebony with Mother of Pearl ovals
peghead veneers: Zebrawood
birthday: March 9, 1977
originally made for: individual purchased directly from Alembic.  
 
The wiring harness should have the number 189 written on one of the pots, and the original power supply was serial number 615.  
 
That's it.

Hi Mica,
I have a beautiful old Series 1, she's mellowed over the years so it's hard to determine what woods have been used.
She also has what looks like a rosewood fingerboard  
 
Can I give you the serial number so that I can get a bit of information ?

Here's the details I found for your bass:
76434 SSB-I Short Scale Bass, Series I
 
top: Padouk (aka Vermilion)
core: Walnut
back: Padouk
fingerboard: Padouk with mother of pearl inlays
peghead veneers: Padouk and Bocate
birthday: June 23, 1976 (almost happy birthday!)
originally made for: NAMM show display.
 
Sounds like an unusual instrument. I'm not surprised you would have difficultly identifying the woods, the orange red or Padouk fades to a bricky brown over time. Also, with an either oil or yellowed polyurethane finish (not recorded), it would be impossible to identify with certainty by looks alone.

Thanks for that information.
 
I always thought she was medium scale as the neck feels longer than my Stanley Clarke Deluxe.
 
She's mellowed to a gorgeous cherry red & has a real 'vibe' to the sound, the sustain is terrific & is my favourite out of the collection.
The condition's pretty good & is in keeping with the age but I spent a long time cleaning her up & she's VERY pretty (to me !!)
I'm looking forward to gigging with my Series 1 this weekend !
 
Wow, 30 years tomorrow  (I will have a beer on her behalf !)
As soon as I can shrink the pics down to a size that will fit on the website.
