Could someone please remind me what the gain adjustment in the controls cavity adjusts. This is on the standard Epic electronics. What is the optimal setting for this?

No expert here, but I believe it is just for adjusting the output volume. You can turn it up or down and balance it with your other basses. For instance, if you are gigging with other basses you can adjust the Epic so that the max volume is close to or the same as the others. Then you don't have one that whispers and another that shouts.

In addition to what Rich said, if your trim pot is all the way up, it may overdrive some amps and preamps; thus you can back it off to where that doesn't happen. And I believe from what some folks have posted to the group, that the same thing might apply to some stomp boxes. But changing the level does not affect the tone of your bass. As far as an optimal setting, if balancing with other basses and overdriving amps is not an issue, then I'm thinking you may want to set it on high. I could be wrong, but my thinking on this is that by getting as much signal from the bass as possible, you don't need to add as much gain at other stages of the signal path; thus the amount of noise added to the signal should be less.

Does anyone know where you can get the specifications of the various electronics packages available? Specs such as the eq ranges and what the controls do.

oujeebass brings up a valid point that I think goes further than just specs of electronics packages. How about not only specs but also what packages are available and their retail prices. The price lists don't show the pricing of the electronics hierarchy. What if somebody wanted to put Anniversary electronics into an Excel for example...

Wade; a fair amount of information about the various electronics packages is in the FAQ and Must Reads sections of this board.

John; much of the retail pricing can be inferred from the quote generator and from the option pages for the individual basses. For instance the upgrade price for putting signature electronics in an Essence is $850; and the upgrade price for putting Essence electronics in an Epic is $200. Note that a quote generator for the Excel is being developed and is available on the Excel page; but it is still a work in progress. I would imagine that most of the people that currently have instruments in progress at Alembic would prefer that Mica spend her time trying to get their instruments completed (or taking pictures of the work in progress) rather than work on the quote generator . But it is on her list of things to do and she has made progress on it recently.

What frequency ranges are the treble and bass controls covering on my stock Epic?

I'll second the motion for adding an FAQ that lists the frequency and cut/boost, for stock bass and treble boost switches and pots.

I don't actually know what mine are!

Hi Dave,
There was a post someone (I think it was Mica) did with a graph of the frequency plot of Epic electronics. I remember the image was a little small and low rez, but you could read the info on screen. Doing a search for frequency response shows some results for the bass and treble cut/flat/boost switches on Distillate/Rogue.

Here's that my dad printed for the bass and treble controls on an Epic.

There is a list of functions on each model page. We plan expanded documentation of the electronics features in the very near future - that's one of the reasons we're postponing custom electronic work, Ron's needed for some internal projects, such as this documentation.
