Need Some Advice

I am thinking of buying a used Alembic, (that's all I can afford right now).  I'm thinking of either a Series bass or a Stanley signature bass. I live in a part of Canada that doesn't have an Alembic dealer so I can't play one and ask questions.  I'm hoping I can get some advice, or tips from Alembic owners. I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help answer for me.  
 
I heard a rumor that the Series and Stanley bases do not balance well when worn with a strap because they are head heavy, is this true?
 
Is there a big difference in sound between a Series bass and a Stanley signature  bass? Other than price what are the main differences between a Series and the Stanley basses?
 
I've seen a couple of Alembic basses for sale that are around 25+ years old. If I buy one of them I'm concerned about having to replace the electronics. How long (roughly) would the electronics last in a Series or Stanley bass?

I have a Brown Bass which is a short scale/small body (i.e. a Stanley bass). I use a 2.5 strap and I have never really had any problems with neck dive or my arm getting tired from having to hold the neck up.  
 
I can't speak to the tone difference with a Series instrument but I will say the Anniversary electronics and Essence electronics in both of my basses let me get The Alembic sound that Stanley and Mark King are known for. I have been happy with both.  
 
As far as electronics go there is no lifespan so to speak. In theory the electronics will last forever. There have been improvements made over the years to make the elctronics quieter. From my understanding the upgrade from 1970's era Series electronics to current electronics can be fairly expensive so should be considered in the purchase price of any older instrument.

My understading is that the upgrade for older Series instruments runs about $1500.  Whether you need it or not depends on where you are.  Nowadays there are lots of radio transmissions on frequencies that might interfere with Series electronics.  These frequencies weren't so populated back in the 70's.  If you pick up interference where you live, you will need the upgrade.  If you don't, you won't.
