Info Request: #77 and 882
« on: August 28, 2005, 11:56:13 AM »
I am looking at a Series I with #77 and 882 stamped on the pegboard.  Any information would be appreciated.  I believe that it has been refinished with an oil/wax finish.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

Hello Bob,

here's what we have:

1977 4 string long scale series bass
Walnut top & back
mahogany core
maple/purpleheart neck
vermillion fretboard
zebrawood peghead veneers
mother of pearl oval inlays
Completed 11/16/77

That's it.

Thank you.  Apparently, the current owner had it refinished in an oil/wax finish as the poly overcoat of the original finish was cracking and peeling. Any thought?

It is a strikingly beautiful instrument.  Is there much difference in the quality/sound of the electronics from the 77 Series 1 and the current Series 1?  The upgrade is a heavy financial burden on top of the bass purchase.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

I have a '78 Series I and the electronics work great for me. Unless you get a lot of noise (RF, etc), you probably don't need an upgrade. My Series doesn't buzz any more than any other bass that I have and certainly less than some of them!

I say play and enjoy!
