I'm actually in the process of repairing my DS-5 toggle switch so the repair should be the same for you.
First off I got this from Alembic
http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/n/a/nanc6951/storage/alembicDrawingDS5.jpg Then this is how I wired up my replacement DPDT switch
http://personal.atl.bellsouth.net/n/a/nanc6951/storage/dpdtWiring.jpg I guess I'm not understanding the alembic diagram correctly. When I wire it the way I have shown in dpdtWiring.jpg everything works fine in stereo mode (which it should because it's a direct connect for bridge and neck). However, in mono mode both pickups come out the mono DS5 out (good) but the bridge pickup is hardly audible (bad). The way I have wired it there is a 40k ohm resistance for the bridge pickup (hence the low output) and a 20k ohm resistance for the neck pickup (normal output).
This didn't appear right to me and I thought maybe I was reading the diagram wrong and it's supposed to be 20k ohm resistance not 40k and 20k. So I pulled off my 20k resistor that connected pole 1 to pole 2 on my DPDT switch and instead directly connected pole 1 to pole 2. Now it still works fine in stereo mode and in mono mode each picked is now of equal volume (since there isn't that extra 20k ohm resistor on the bridge pickup).
Sounds good right? Well everything is peachy except for when I run mono mode I cannot toggle solo neck or solo bridge from my bass. So my 4 position pickup selector on my Series I functions as...
1 Off
2 Neck(no sound at all)
3 Both(both come on, equal volume, peachy)
4 Bridge(no sound at all)
Just to make sure that it wasn't my bass internals I disconnected my 5 pin cable from my bass and plugged headphones directly into my stereo 1/4 out jack and tested my pickup selector.
1 Off
2 Neck(sound, only one ear, peachy)
3 Both(both come on, equal volume, peachy)
4 Bridge(sound, other ear, peachy)
Help. What am I doing wrong here?
Here's the serial number if it might help. #885014
