Can anyone tell me how difficult (or simple) it would be to convert one of my Persuader's volume pots into a pan control, making the other a 'master' volume. The reason I'm asking is that I have to replace one of the volume pots and the thought crossed my mind that I really like my Rogue's set up. Are there any schematics available that could assist in this little project?

Maybe you could post a photo of the control cavity? As you know, nothing much around here is standard, things change over time, etc. I won't be able to help, but maybe some others will chime in if they have a better idea of exactly what you have. Just a thought.

John; my guess is that it is probably not very straight forward; that besides pots there may be the replacement of printed circuit boards. And then the problem of positioning said pots and circuit boards with existing holes in the body. But I'm only guessing. As Bob suggested, a picture of your control cavity would be helpful; I don't think I've seen a picture of a Persuader control cavity. But even with a picture I probably wouldn't be much help. My guess is this is a question for Mica; and I bet the answer probably involves shipping the bass across the country. I did go back and reread the thread where Mica talks about upgrading Persuader controls. You've probably already read it, but heres the link:

Bob- A very good thought that, posting a pic of the cavity. Unfortunately I don't have access to a camera. Perhaps I'm not doing a good job of describing what I wanted to do either.

Dave- Thanks for the link but the issue discussed there was a bit different from what I was proposing. I'm thinking of having one gain control for both pickups and also suspect you're correct in assuming a PCB would need replacing. That's why I was hoping a schematic could be helpful in determining if the existing circuits could be modified to accomplish my goal.

Perhaps I should be posting in the Dreaming section, eh?

LOL!! Well I hope it's more realistic than that! I am interested in the outcome. I have thought from time to time about how my Spoiler would benefit from a pan control; of course that's a different situation from your's.

For what you want to do, you can keep your original filter control, but you'll need to replace the 2 volume harness with a volume blend harness. The pots for the 2-volume are a different value and can't be used as a master volume. Also, the 2-volume setup has the filter volume at max all the time, when you turn the volume down, they sound a little hissier because the filter gain is still full on. With the newer volume/blend setups, the filter volume is proportional, so as you decrease the volume, there is no increase in hiss.

You'll probably have to do this anyway because it's been 15 years since we discontinued the 2-volume Activators and the supply of spares is now dry.

Thanks for the reply. However I'm still a bit confused. (It's easy to confuse me.) Does this mean that the replacement pot I get from Stewart-MacDonald won't work? Will the blend harness work with the existing PCB? Where do I get this harness? Do I need to replace both pots?

Please unconfuse me?

I hope it's a 100K value. You'll probably have to use jumper wires to connect from the pot terminals to the circuit board.

If you convert, you'll only use the one circuit board for the filter control you have. You would get 2 new boards (one for pan, one for volume) and the output jack wired to the volume harness.

Hope that's unconfusing.
