Hi guys,about to get a new set of strings for my Epic 5 string bass,it's fitted with a standard B without the taper right now,will a set which has a tapered B work ok with the bridge,as you all know it doesn't have height adjustment on the saddles,please let me know,thanks,Julian.

I got a set of DR Tapereds for my Rogue 5 and it works fine.......

Do you mean you want to use a set with a tapered B, and the rest non-tapered?

Hi,yes,i want to use a set of elixirs,but the gauge i like 45/65/85/105/130 and has a tapered B only,i can adjust the bridge,but it will bring the E and maybe the A up to much for me,and as you can't adjust the saddles,it may be a problem,they do a lighter set,but i don't like the strings to light myself,and i like elixirs!!so that's why i was asking about the B,but they are expensive and i don't want to take the risk!i guess i might have to bite the bullet and risk getting some,thanks for the reply's,Julian.

Our standard bridge doesn't have individual saddle height adjusters, we just feel the bass should be set up properly for the strings.

You you raise the bridge for the exposed core, the other strings will be too high. You can do this, you'll just need to file the saddles lower for the other 4 strings.

If you feel like you're going to stick with the exposed core string, then you can order a replacement saddle for the B string ($12) and have it slot for the string.

If you feel like you're going to bounce between regular and exposed core strings, you may have an easier time by getting another bridge and having one slot for regular strings and the other for the exposed core. Then you can get a reliable setup out of either.

Thanks for the reply Mica,i didn't think about another saddle,i'm going to get the strings,and i will be intouch to order the saddle from you,then i can just use the other saddle as you suggest for normal un-tapered B strings,thanks,Julian.

What is the price for a new 4-string bridge for an old Series I, including setup for a tapered-core B?

These are supplied unslotted at $250. We can't so the slotting remotely, but since it's a blank slate, you can slot it for any size string you need.

It's tempting to get the new bridge, but I think I'll save up to use the Malthumb Alembic Aquisition Model (MAAM) and get a 5-string instead. I would hate to mess up a perfectly good bridge.
